Towards a Model of Computer Science Graduate Admissions Decisions

چکیده

Abstract. Potential applicants to graduate school find it difficult to predict, even approximately, which schools will accept them. We have created a predictive model of admissions decisionmaking, packaged in the form of a web page that allows students to enter their information and see a list of schools where they are likely to be accepted. This paper explains the rationale for the model’s design and parameter values. Interesting issues include the way that evidence is combined, the estimation of parameters, and the modeling of uncertainty. Analysis & Prediction of American Graduate Admissions Process

This project tries to understand American Graduate Admissions process by specifically analyzing MS Computer Science application over past 5 years. Edulix has been used as data source. After extensive data cleaning, I have tried to model admissions data based on patterns extracted from data and domain knowledge. The key to analyzing Graduate Admissions data is to analyze data in buckets rather t...

Joint pricing, inventory, and preservation decisions for deteriorating items with stochastic demand and promotional efforts

This study models a joint pricing, inventory, and preservation decision-making problem for deteriorating items subject to stochastic demand and promotional effort. The generalized price-dependent stochastic demand, time proportional deterioration, and partial backlogging rates are used to model the inventory system. The objective is to find the optimal pricing, replenishment, and preservation t...

A nested logit model of the choice of a graduate business school

Less than a handful of papers have used data on individuals to examine people’s decisions about which school to attend. This paper develops a nested logit model of the determinants of choice of a graduate business school. Data are drawn from a new longitudinal survey of registrants for the Graduate Management Admission Test. One finding is that elasticity of school choice with respect to tuitio...

Promoting Inclusive Holistic Graduate Admissions in Educational Leadership Preparation Programs

Aspiring and practicing school leaders often identify graduate degrees as playing a significant role in achieving educational access and engaging in building, district-wide, regional, state, and national decision-making regarding practice and policy impacting marginalized populations in K–12 U.S. schools. The rationale behind initiating discourse on graduate student involvement grows out of cur...

ADMIT - A Web-Based System to Facilitate Graduate Admission Process

In this paper we describe ADMIT, a software application developed to assist the graduate admissions process at the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences (SIS). ADMIT uses a Bayesian network model built from historical admissions data and academic performance records to predict how likely each applicant is to succeed. The system rank-orders applicants based on the probability o...
